An October 2003 trip to Acapulco by kikkiboo
Quote: Spent a week in Acapulco at the fabulous Mayan Palace.
Hotel | "Mayan Palace Acapulco"
Although it is a very large resort the layout makes it feel secluded and the pool areas are so large it never feels crowded. Multiple restaurants on-site give many dining options from moderate to more expensive. I would recommend a rental car for at least part of your stay to see some of the more outlying areas. Although you never need to leave the resort it would be a shame to be in this exotic locale and yet never see the surrounding sights.

Story/Tip
Yes, it is a different style of driving, and the circle plazas make it interesting to find your turn-off, but it's all part of the fun. We have gone off into little mountain towns where we were the only Americans there and NO ONE spoke English, and these have been some of our best times of the vacation. Mexicans are unfailingly courteous and generous in sharing their country with visitors. If you make the effort to visit with them they are very interested and curious about us and our lives as well. Often they will offer to cook a meal for you right in their home if no restaurants are available. These are often the best meals of our vacation and the most memorable.
Get out and explore and have fun. Rent a car and see the sights. Get off the beaten path and live a little. Use common sense, try not to drive an unknown road after dark, and you will be fine. Mexico actually feels safer than many American cities.
