Rocking South Beach Miami

A November 2003 trip to Miami by raeuven

We stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club in South Beach, Miami. What a wonderful place. Very nice and the service was superb. Great rooms and helpful people at the front desk. Great, great time.

Best things to do: Nikki Beach and Lincoln Drive for the shops and dining. You could pick a different restaurant every day and night and still not even touch all the restaurants. Opium Club if you like techno. Mangos, of course, on South Beach for Latin music is a must see.

Quick Tips:

Go to the clubs early because you have a better chance of getting in free. We drove to Key West, and it was worth the trip.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking was the best way to get around. Taxis were reasonable if you didn't like the 20 block walk after you have been dancing and drinking all night.
What a great place. You must try to trade in or stay here. You will not regret it. We had a great time and the staff was exceptional. The room was perfect.

Best Things Nearby:
South Beach Miami Ocean Drive Walk. Lincoln Drive, the beach, and mangos. Activities galore.

Best Things About the Resort:
This was a first-rate place. The rooms were great and the people at the front desk were so very helpful.

Resort Experience:
We got a room on the fourth floor, which we recommend. We had four people in our one bedroom and the fourth floor had a workout room, hot tub, roof, and a bathroom, which we kind of used as an extra bathroom. The extra bathroom did come in handy. The front desk guy, Omar, and the concierge, Lewis, were beyond helpful as far as recommending room and then getting us on guest lists at the hot club spots so we could get in free without having to wait in line, and it worked. They were always there to open doors and help in any way possible.

This was a great place. South Beach was happening even though the weather was a little on the cold and windy side.

Restaurant | "Next"

We just happened to be walking at night looking for souvenirs and stumbled on Lincoln Street in South Beach. It is about a 15-block walk with stores and restaurants on both sides with outdoor (or indoor if you want) seating for every restaurant.

We decided on a place called Next. It had an extremely varied menu of all different kinds of ethnic and American foods to satisfy both of our tastes. The food was enough for six people to eat. That atmosphere was great. We sat outdoors under umbrellas. We just happened on this street on our last night in South Beach. We wish we would have know about it earlier.

You must go and check this street out. It is in about the 1900 block of Collins, or maybe between 1800 and 2200. You will be amazed. All the palm trees are lit up like Christmas trees at night. Lots of beautiful people.

Nikki Beach ClubBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Nikki Beach"

This is a must see in South Beach. We went to many places there--Opium, Crobar--but by far Nikki Beach was the best. Hilton Grand Vacations Club Omar (front desk) was able to get us on the guest list, so all four of us got in for free. We got there early so it wasn't crowded yet. Must go Sunday night. Went upstairs to the bar, ordered drinks, and sat on one of the beds they have everywhere. Then we walked past the restaurant, which is all outdoors and looks like a nice place to eat.

Then we headed towards the beach part, where there are tiki torches and beds laid out everywhere. This is not like an orgy or anything, it's very high class. You couldn't sit on the beds unless you had VIP status, which means you buy a $200 bottle of alcohol or wine and they provide the mixers. It is an extra large bottle of alcohol though. Drinks are expensive, so with a crowd it might be worth it. For the other poor folks, they have lounge chairs set up around the bed with sheets and mats that are quite comfortable. They also had tent beds that you could use also, and a few teepees (yes, like the Indians). If we walked past the dunes, there was the ocean.

This place was beautiful. There were female dancers, a very erotic hula hoop girl, and then mostly dancers in very small Indian costumes who would dance on these small stages. They were very beautiful and well-built. My husband really liked them. . .maybe too much. Anyway, this is ten stars and a must do.

MangosBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Mangos is the hotspot on South Beach. They play Latin/Cuban music and have some very sexy dancers who dance on the bars. It is a happening spot and a must see. They also have food that is pretty good. There was a Brazilian dancer there the nights we were there, and it makes you want to go to Brazil for Mardi Gras.
