Montreal has many fine dining restaurants! As someone once told me, even if you visit two restaurants a day, it is impossible to try out all restaurants here in a year! I've been living here for six years, and believe me, that's so true.

Schwartz's

Schwartz's has the BEST smoked meat in the world! No doubt!

Unlike other places, Schwartz's smoked meat is thick but very tender! Remember to ask for "medium" when you are ordering the smoked meat.. because that is the best! The fatty part is not oily at all, and the lean part will not be too dry if you ask for medium ;)

You can order a sandwich, or a plate. Normally, I order large plate of smoked meat. If I cannot finish, I can always have it to go! It still tastes good after heating it in the oven ;)

You can also get take-outs. Buy it by pounds, sliced or unsliced, or choose from the menu they have. They also have steak and calf's liver, but I love their smoked meat the most! Their fries are good too. Very crispy outside, and soft inside... Just like the way I like my fries to be done!

The place is not clean most of the time, so if you cannot stand dirtiness, better get take-out ^^; Usually there is a line at lunchtime, but the wait is definitely worth it!

Oh yeah, just a reminder - they only accept CASH! No cards, nothing. They do have an ATM machine inside the bistro, but just to let you know in case you don't like to use those ATM machines ;)

El Gitano

Restaurant

small tiny restaurant, but the atmosphere is nice!

El Gitano

My friend recommended this Spanish restaurant to me, because she loves the rice dish they have! Therefore, one day I drag a few friends with me to give it a try!

We three people were tooo hungry, so when the bread/bread crumbs was served, we finished everything in five minutes. The bread crumb is actually very delicious. The waiter replaced the empty basket with a fresh new one filled with bread and bread crumbs even without us asking for it. That's a PLUS.

I order the seafood (with lobster) rice, their specialty! It is a bit pricey, but VERY VERY delicious. The rice soaked in all the golden part of the sauce, tastes sooo good! All the seafood tastes delicious too! The lobster, shrimps, clams, crab sticks, scallops, and fish...etc. They use lots of seafood in this dish! Superb. One of my friends ordered a vegetarian rice dish. I heard it was good too. Another friend ordered the lamb. It is probably the cheapest lamb dish I know of in Montreal so far! My friend said it is not bad.

As for dessert, one of my friends ordered Grand Marnier Parfait. I didn't try it, but it seemed nice. Me and my other friend ordered Caramel Custard - pretty good!

In conclusion, I love their rice dish a lot! They have many different main courses, such as rabbits, boiled lobster, scallops, etc. I guess I'll try the lamb next time!
