Best Things Nearby:For those of us who enjoy a little wagering now and then, the Woodlands Dog and Horse Racetrack is nearby. Of course there is also the Truman Library and Sports Complex and Country Club Plaza. This campground is about 45 minutes from Kansas City, so dining, shows, etc. are readily available. Best Things About the Resort:Lake fishing, sand beach, boats, adult lounge, restaurant, and exceptionally nice teen lounge. Best Things Nearby:Garden of the Gods and the Air Force Academy are just minutes away in Colorado Springs and are "must see" points of interest.Best Things About the Resort:Spectacular views and shaded campsites are fantastic. Night movies at the adult lounge make for an excellent opportunity to meet and chat with fellow campers. Also in the lounge is a model of an old west saloon consisting of lots of hand carved figures. Don’t miss this museum quality exhibit. Scattered around the office and lounge are life-sized wooden sculptures of cowboys waiting for you to take photos with members of your family. Best Things Nearby:A real "must see" is the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We were not familiar with this national park, but decided to do a bit of exploring. To our delight and amazement it turned out to be one of our favorite parks in the United States. I personally liked it better than Yosemite (which of course is a very nice park). If you have a car and are very adventuresome, take a drive along Hwy. 550 from Ouray to Silverton. This is a real MOUNTAIN road. I don’t suggest it for motor homes or fifth wheelers. It is steep and narrow, with sheer cliffs and non-existent guard rails. The scenery is spectacular for passengers; drivers keep your eyes on the road! Once yo...Read More

Best Things Nearby:We heard that there were sandy beaches, whale watching, crabbing, clamming, surfing, diving, and beachcombing nearby, if you can find access to the shore. There were several gift shops and restaurants in Newport.Best Things About the Resort:We enjoyed a secluded campsite (in the overflow area with no hookups) across the road only a few hundred yards from the main campground. There was a heated pool and a spa, however, the heater for the pool and spa were out of order during our stay. Parts were expected about 2-3 weeks later.Resort Experience:This campground has the usual clubhouse, an indoor pool, spa, small store, tennis court, and other ...Read More
