There are a great variety of great restaurants and bars. I have tried to get to all of them.

The Standard Hotel

Hotel | "The Standard"

Quote:
This is a less expensive alternative to the Mondrian. It has a more local hip feel to the hotel. The bar and view are great. They have their own DJ spinning grooves. A true Hollywood experience. The diner rocks also and it is open until 3.

Thai Palms Tai Restaurant

Restaurant | "Palms Thai"

Quote:
This place has grat Thai food and very reasonable prices. The menu is huge. The real reason to come here, however, is Kevin. Kevin is a small Thai guy who dresses up like Elvis (the jumpsuit years)and puts on a show. Tuesday-Sunday. It rocks! Please rate my entry, I need the points. Thanks!

Belly

Restaurant

This is a new hip bar with a great tapas menu. The food was surprisingly good and the service was excellent. A great singles scene and better yet there is no cover. It is also easy to get in, no attitude at the door. That's saying a lot for L.A. Please rate my entry, I need the points. Thanks!

Mojo

Restaurant | "W Hotel (Mojo)"

Quote:
The bar and lobby at the W is impressive. It is what L.A. is all about. Beautiful people, expensive drinks, cool scene, and even David Gahan from Depeche Mode was hanging there. You might find a heavy duty attitude at the door. Bring somebody from out of town, this is L.A. Please rate my entry, I need the points. Thanks!

Lawry's The Prime Rib

Restaurant | "Lawry's"

Quote:
This is a Los Angeles institution. There is Morton's, Ruth Chris, and The Grill all fairly close by. I, however, keep coming back here. They basically only have prime rib. They cut it table-side and it comes with the infamous spinning salad and Yorkshire pudding. You also get two sides, I usually get cream of corn and mashed potatoes. The Lawry's cut is 10 ounces. I am a fairly big guy and the Lawry's cut just about does me in. I would recommend the California cut. It is 6 ounces. Lawry's does take walk-ins, but the wait could be hours. I would recommend reservations. The staff is top notch. Enjoy!

Bar Marmont

Attraction

Quote:
This a great local bar. It is tough to find. Look for a hand painted sign and a plastic door. If you smoke, there is a outdoor area. One of the few places you can smoke. Really cool and goth inside.

Daddy's Bar & Lounge

Attraction | "Daddy's"

Quote:
A great singles bar that has many round fool stools to sit on. You just end up meeting people. They really don't enforce the smoking law, so everyone is smoking. One of the few places you can, that adds to the popularity.

Circle Bar

Best Of IgoUgo

Attraction

Quote:
The Circle was a long ago dive that is now a very hot singles bar. The bar itself is a rectangle and if you are lucky enough to get a bar stool you will be able to face everybody else at the bar. I wish more places did this. After about 9 o'clock on Fridays and Saturdays, it is extremely tough to get in. Groups of girls walk right in, so go with girlfriends. The bar is hip and the eye candy is sweet. Even the bartenders are semi-supermodels. After some people have had a few drinks, the open area turns into a make shift dance floor. The Brig

Attraction

Quote:
The Brig has been remodeled to keep up with the Circle Bar. There are more locals here. I probably go to this bar the most. Unfortunately, with the remodeling, the Brig has lost some of it's neighborhood charm. I still enjoy the vibe and the bartenders are nice enough to be friends. In fact, one is. The Brig has a much better drink and wine list than the Circle Bar. A member of the frequent flier dining plans.

Rebecca's

Attraction

Quote:
Rebecca's is a hot bar on Ocean that serves fancy Mexican food(duck tacos, lobster quesadillas). The real attaction is the clientele and the house margarita that they serve by the pitcher. Look out, they are strong. A real fun place.

LAX

Story/Tip

Quote:
When you arrive from LAX, you should get a cab. Most hotels in the area have shuttles, but if they don't a taxi is the best way to get around. The taxis are expensive because of the distances involved with LAX. One nice thing, however, is that all passengers ride for the same price.
