Thanksgiving at Hilton Head

A November 2003 trip to Hilton Head by cptgusto

Quote: We decided to leave the old home and do something different. The kids are growing up and so many distractions often leave the holiday something less than a family affair. So we packed up the car and drove to Hilton Head.

Thanksgiving at Hilton Head

Overview

Quote:
If you stay at a Coral Sands or Port O Call, you can get reduced golf. We played Port Royal (they have three courses) and it was great, and for only a round! Best deal in town.

Quick Tips:

Dining out can be both costly and consist of a long wait. Pack some homemade food and heat them up for quick meals.

Best Way To Get Around:

The bikes are the best! Traffic can be bad, and with a bike you see more of the island. Things are close enough for walking too.

Coral Sands is a Gold Crown resort, and the condo met that standard. The three-bedroom had one king room, one double bed (two in a room) and what they called a Carolina Room that was like a den with a pullout sofa bed. The living room also had a pull out sofa bed. TV in every room and the one in the living room was huge and had a DVD player also. A and B units are poolside, but C, D, etc are a short walk (a dark walk at night, lighting was poor). However, the heated pool was indeed heated and nice.

Best Things Nearby:Location is great. Two blocks to shopping, beach, and food. Across the street from a Shipyard entrance for golf. Tennis and pool on site.Best Things About the Resort:Very nice units. Construction is still going on but did not bother us. *** If you plan to use the hideaway beds, make sure the linen is there right away. Ours was not and it took three days (it was Thanksgiving weekend though) to get it.Resort Experience:Coral Sands is a Gold Crown resort and the condo met that standard. Only had to wait 30 minutes for a Saturday night table for 10! Food was great, but for a $18 seafood plate, I felt cheated. $16 for a dozen oysters should be a clue. Overall, there were some deals on the menu for every budget.

What a nice course! Open enough for hackers and challenging enough for the pro. Not really long, but the greens were well protected. Three different courses -- I played the Robbers. Even the rough was nicer than the course I play at home. First-class all the way!
