When you say you are staying at the Radisson, locals try to tell you that it is now the Ramkota. But if you're savvy, you know to tell them that it is the old Holiday Inn. This is the nicest hotel closest to the state capitol building. There is a full-service restaurant that I have had many a business breakfast in. There is fitness room, but you have to get the key from the front desk. The rooms are a bit small, but comfortable, and there is coffeemaker and free 800# calls. Me and my modem like that. There is an adjacent covered parking structure, and given the annual snowfall, that's a good thing. It is free for hotel guests.

Country House Deli

I had the Country House Deli cater an event for me at the Capitol. The sandwiches were fresh and yummy. Their salads were fabulous. We had a pasta salad with broccoli and a potato salad. The cookies went over like crazy and the fruit and veggie trays were very nice too. The catering staff was very organized and professional. I will use them again. The prices were great too.

Kirkwood Mall

Yes, I always go to the mall in these small towns. It kills time when I do not feel like working, and I can get some errands done even though I'm away from home. At Kirkwood, there is a Target, a tiny Marshall Fields with some bargains, JC Penney, and all the usual mall suspects like American Eagle, Bath and Body Works, a Hallmark, etc. I loved the local sporting-goods store - Sheels All Sports. I got some sassy U of ND Fighting Sioux and NDSU shirts for my family. They also had some great tennis gear marked down. A Fila skirt for $10 - that's unheard of. National Buffalo Museum

On a drive from Fargo to Bismarck, I had to stop and see the famous White Buffalo. Her name is White Cloud. She was born in 1996 and it was a really big deal because albino buffalos are extremely rare. For the Native American tribes, it was a sign of great changes in the world. Some think of it as a blessing and others believe it is a sign of peace, prosperity, unity and hope.
