Overview

Basilica Palladiana Photo - Vicenza, Italy
Quote:
Situated almost geographically between Venice and Verona is the city of Vicenza. Few tourists venture off the path to visit the city that boasts many of the architect Palladio's masterpieces. Palladio is one of the great architects of the Renaissance. You can see the inspiration of Greek and Roman architecture in his columns. His work has made its impact on America. Stop by the Villa Rotonda and take out a nickel. Look at the back of the coin and then at the villa. You will see Jefferson's inspiration for Montecello. Vicenza Youth Hostel Photo - Olimpico, Vicenza, Italy

The Vicenza Youth Hostel is a great bargain. We stayed there with a family of four. It is a historical building renovated as a modern structure, suitable for wheelchair users. The Hostel has 85 beds and is located in the heart of the city, Piazza Matteotti, at few metres from the most important monuments: Cathedral, Dome, Santa Corona Church, the gothic Palaces of Chiericati, Thiene, Barbarano, Colleoni, Iseppo and Valmarana Palaces, made by one of the most creative architect's of the XVI Century, Andrea Palladio.
We enjoyed the balcony with picnic dinners. There is no air conditioning.

Reghetti Best of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Quote:
A unique 'cafeteria' restaurant. Located near the Cathedral and only open during the lunch hour. Hurry to get a seat. It is the best way to try the dishes you might order at more expensive restaurants. Tell the hurried service staff what special of the day you would like and get your own drink. You can have a filling delicious meal for under $10 (with wine) and try bolito misto or baccala.

Attraction

Quote:
If you choose to drive around Vicenza venture out to the smaller villages. Usually you will find one that is having a local 'festa.' You can dance, eat tasty grilled meats, and have lively conversations with 'real' people.

Attraction

Quote:
If you opt to drive in the area there are many wonderful small wineries to explore. Many serve light foods to accompany the wine. Be prepared for a surprise. The Italians are notorious for keeping the best wines for themselves and not exporting them.
