2nd Honeymoon, 1st Mexican Trip

An October 2003 trip to Cancun by maksamit

We celebrated our 10th anniversary in Mexico. A proposal on the beach, swimming in a pool that appeared to drift into the horizon of the ocean, snorkeling in the Angel Reef, and dancing at Senor Frogs! The Mayan ruins are a must see. Mexico is on the return-to list!

Mexico was a destination we always wanted to see. Fear of the language barriers, international laws, and all other uncertainties were major concerns. We know now that Cancun is very commerialized and tourist friendly. We will visit again soon.

Quick Tips:

We recommend going with other couples for the entertainment parts. The bar scene is more fun if you have a group to be with. October is a great time to travel there. The rain season is over and it is pre-spring break. Definitely a great time for those who are out of the college party scene.

Best Way To Get Around:

The city buses are safe to travel during daylight hours. Taxis are somewhat affordable. Walking is okay if you stay in the hotel zone in downtown Cancun. We used the resort transportation most of the time. Car rentals are available, however, be aware of the Mexican laws. They do drive a bit on the wild side.
Best Things Nearby:
The resort is about 30 minutes from Cancun. The beach is right off poolside. Plently of ocean activites available. Shopping, dining, and tours are available through the resort's travel agent.

Best Things About the Resort:
Very large! Many ammenities yet to come. Resort is still under construction, but already has a lot to offer.

Resort Experience:
I have only seen pools like this in magazines! It took my breath away! We were swept up into a romantic tizzy the whole week. The studio was immaculate. We did a tour of what is being built as well. The one and two bedroom suites are more than a family would normally expect. Suites with a private whirlpool on the balcony will be available soon. We will definitely return for another vacation.

Restaurant

We had an array of breads with a smooth Mexican red wine. A typical salad served before the main entree. The main dish came very warm. Leave room for an even more mouth-watering dessert. Follow with a nightcap at one of the bars and you'll be set to turn in for the night!

Attraction

We went to the Mexican Fiesta. What a blast! Shots of tequila, Mexican games with prizes (a shot of tequila), a pinata for the kids, and very good Mexican cuisine. A stage show entertained for the duration of the evening. An all around good time.

We bought from the travel agent at our resort. Neither of us had ever done this. In fact, my husband has always feared the ocean. We had so much fun. One of the first fish we encountered was a sand shark! Instead of swimming away from it, Mike decided to go in for a closer look! The length of time was just perfect, about 1.5 to 2 hours (in the water). Transportation, gear rental, bottled water, and lunch was included in the price. We have decided to plan our next vacation around snorkeling!
