Live like a native!
We stayed in a great shotgun double apartment with 4 bedrooms, two baths, and a deck and pool in the back. With muggy temperatures in 70s and 80s, a cool dip in the pool was possible even in November!
All that jazz!
We were just around the corner from Cafe Brazil which hosted a brass band complete with sousaphone! Just to the east of the French Quarter, we were away from the Bourbon Street crowd for a more laid back atmosphere.

Quick Tips:
Weather
Even in November we only need a light jacket at most at night. During the day it was warm and sunny although occasionally a little muggy/sticky.
Book ahead!
New Orleans has an enormous conference center. During a big conference all the flights and hotel rooms are sold out and the hotel prices are double what they normally are. Book in advance or try to be there when a conference is not in town. There were 28,000 people at our conference and all the planes were oversold so lots of people got stuck in New Orleans or had trouble getting there.
Best Way To Get Around:
Streetcars and other public transport
From our apartment we walked down Esplanade Ave to catch the streetcar that runs along the river. This was an enjoyable ride and a convenient way to get to the conference center. The fare was .50 each way and the drivers don't give change. I also took the bus from the airport (.50) and then walked about a mile to the convention center the first night. There's also an airport shuttle company that offers one way to and from the airport.
Taxi
Taxis are plentiful and not too expensive. The easiest way to flag one is to wait by a hotel. Wherever there are lots of tourists, it is easy to get a cab. If you are walking down street utilized mainly by locals, any cabs that pass you will likely be full. It was about to go to the convention center from the northeast corner of the French Quarter and about to go to our apartment from anywhere in the French Quarter.
