A really interesting place to visit is the Fortress of Louisbourg. It is a depiction of an 18th-century French fortress and it really depicts the era -- there are people dressed in period costumes and the restaurants on site are fabulous. You can go to either the poor section or the rich section. It takes all day to basically see everything and you should always take a jacket or sweater with you as the fortress is on the coast. Another good spot to check out is the Cabot Trail, which is a 296km loop -- the beginning and ending of the trail is in Baddeck, NS.
