A must is to try the local food, espidado – wow! There are trips all over the island but The Nuns Valley is a delight -- the scenery will take your breath away. And the air is mountain fresh -- I never thought air could taste so fresh and cool. The Toboggan Run is also something you must try. The market on Friday in Funchal is a treat – flowers, fruit, fish, wine, and cake. The fish market is in lower part of the market -- there are fish, which are dead ugly.
Quick Tips:
Try to eat where the locals eat. It might not look much of a restaurant, but the food and wine are a delight. The chicken is always good a lot nicer than in UK.
Most people can speak English and the supermarkets have a great range of food.
Best Way To Get Around:
Buses go from the bus station in the center of Funchal. You can get a ride up to the Lavaders and meander your way back down again on foot. Taxis are everywhere.
