Scuba... no doubt about it - it is the number-one activity on the island. Make sure you use a very good dive operator. There are too many on the island to mention, but we can highly recommend EDDS. Small groups, personal service, and high safety consciousness, in a nutshell.Quick Tips: If you are not into cruise-ship crowds, stay away from the waterfront of San Miguel, Cozumel's largest town and destination for thousands of cruise-ship visitors. The new malls, jewelry and souvenir shops, as well as aggressive vendors can get on your nerves. Find restaurants by asking around, but don't always believe what the hotel doorman will tell you (they get a commission to recommend certain places). If y...Read More

Best Things Nearby:Best Things About the Resort:VERY GOOD: Excellent housekeeping service, friendliness of the doormen NOT GOOD: No phone access for laptops at hotel, you'll have to go into town and use one of the Internet cafes.Resort Experience:Not what we expected from a Gold Crown resort (and we've been to quite a few), but the room was extremely clean, and we could tell that housekeeping was trying very hard (the little tissue-paper flowers, and creative arrangements of pillows and blankets at turn-down, were a very nice touch and made us feel a little better about the spartan hotel room we had on the eighth floor, overlooking the road and the ju...Read More

La Veranda

Restaurant

Wonderful! The food is Mexican/Caribbean fusion, and absolutely delicious.

Service is very attentive and prompt.

The setting is very romantic - a patio bordered by mature trees and exotic flowers features a fountain and a gazebo.

Owner Ernesto will be happy to accept your compliments on his cuisine and location!

La Veranda is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner, or come on your last evening for a perfect ending to your vacation.

Las Tortugas

Restaurant

Quote:
Off the beaten path... ask your taxi driver to drive you to Las Tortugas in the inland portion of the town of San Miguel. The place is simple; a kitchen, a bar, and a few tables overlooking the street, but this is the real Mexican experience. Don't be discouraged by the lack of luxury - the food is first-class and very reasonable. You can be sure that you are getting the real thing here, and the owner will be glad to see that you took the time to stop by and have a bite. Las Tortugas used to be located near the town square of San Miguel, but rising rental costs have forced the owner to move back into the less "touristy" areas of the town.

Great dive operator! Tony and his crew are very safety-conscious and at the same time ensure that each diver has maximum enjoyment underwater. Groups are kept small, and dive masters are very knowledgeable. Lunch and refreshments are provided on board of the diving vessels.
