It has been 20 years since my last trip to Myrtle Beach and WOW!. It's not the same town I visited then! There are theaters with talented performers, malls that are huge outdoor facilities with various themes, miniature golf courses on nearly every corner, and restaurants for every budget! OH...and they have a BEACH!

This trip was especially memorable because it was just the girls...doing the kind of things WE like! Mike likes to hunt and fish -- theatre is NOT his cup of tea, and especially when they are musicals! We ran hard all week trying to stuff as much of Myrtle Beach into our memory banks as it would hold and fell into bed each night exhausted!

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Lovely Complex
Best Things Nearby:
Broadway at the Beach is a huge shopping mall practically next door to the Sheraton Plantation and is complete with a lake, a section devoted to evening entertainment called Celebrity Square, curiosity shops, restaurants galore, and even a putt-putt golf course and an Imax theatre. And...the Airport is only 3 miles from the Sheraton Plantation!

Best Things About the Resort:
I was most impressed with the friendly and helpful staff! The unit was lovely and the grounds immaculate, but the staff really made our stay perfect with their recommendations and helpful hints!

Resort Experience:
There are many separate four-story buildings. There is an elevator in each building and a couple of luggage carts for your use, just like a hotel. That is sure handy when you're dragging luggage and/or groceries!

The units are decorated with bright colors and a cheery attitude. The kitchen is just to the left of the entryway, and the guest bedroom with adjoining full bath is to the right; this room has two double beds. The dining room is at the end of the entryway with the living room just past it. The furniture is comfortable and the couch is a sleeper sofa. There is a large screened patio off the living room; the master bedroom with a huge king size bed is to the right of the living room. There is a whirlpool tub and sink in the bedroom, and a separate area off the bedroom with a shower and commode. It is a very large unit that's tastefully decorated, two full baths and three TVs. Very comfortable! Also for your enjoyment, there is a very nice outdoor swimming pool, a hot-tub, and a heated indoor swimming pool that is just beautiful!

  • Unit Type: 2 Bedroom

Preston's is a great buffet. The hot food was HOT and the cold food was COLD. The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable, and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. There were so many items to choose from on the buffet tables, if you walk away hungry, it is your own fault!

Soup, a whole herb-roasted chicken (cornish hen), pork riblet, corn-on-the-cob, potato, vegetable, and dessert are served during the Dixie Stampede show and all are included in the price of admission. The food is very good and the show is excellent!

Phillips Seafood House was a wonderful dining experience with excellent food and an attentive staff. We had the Palace Show Special and you had a choice of five entree options. The meal included the potato, vegetable, salad, and dessert. The specialty at Phillips is the crab cakes!

Crocodile Rock

Activity

Dueling piano bar and it's a BLAST! The very talented musicians solicit requests, keep the crowd in stitches, and the audience participates in the lyrics as directed by the piano players. It is a lively and fun-filled evening as they pit the North against the South and other antics! We had so much fun that we went back the next night too!

Holiday Show

Activity

The holiday shows throughout Myrtle Beach begin November 1st and the Alabama Theater is no exception. The performers are very talented, but my personal opinion is that early November is too early for the Christmas spirit and I really wish we could have seen "The One" that usually is the musical performance at the Alabama!

Plantation House
We decided to spend a day exploring (HEY, you can't shop ALL the time!) and headed for Charleston. On the way, we stopped for a guided tour of Boone Hall, one of America's oldest working plantations continuously growing and producing crops for over 320 years. Boone Hill was founded in 1681 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A costumed guide in period clothing showed us through the mansion and explained the history of both the area and the plantation. We explored the nine slave cabins (circa 1790-1810) and walked through the plantation gardens. It was a very interesting and pleasant way to spend a few hours before proceeding on to Charleston.

An example of the extra mile given by the staff at the Sheraton Plantation at Broadway at the Beach: we planned to go to the Palace Theatre to see "Broadway" and inquired at the desk about the purchase of tickets. The following tip also applies to the "Spirit of the Dance" performance at the Palace. The delightful young lady at the Sheraton went out of her way to make recommendations. She said tickets had to be purchased at the Palace, but we should be SURE to ask for the dinner/show special package because it wouldn't be mentioned as an option unless we specifically asked. Purchasing a show ticket only is approximately $32 -- because of her tip, we paid approximately $37 for a wonderful dinner at Phillips' Seafood Restaurant AND the show. . . not to mention PREMIUM SEATING!
