This is a beautiful pastoral region in northern Burgundy. Although the name "chablis" has become associated with sweet wines, at least in the US, the Chablis region of Burgundy produces world-class mostly chardonnay wines. The area is small and unassuming, but it's a great place for wine tasting, a family picnic, or fine dining. Chablis is fairly central to Northern Burgunay, but it's a bit small for a home base. If you want to spend a couple days here, your best best is neighboring Auxerre. Other spots worth exploring in the region are Fountainbleu, Tonnaire, and Vezelay. In South Burgundy, Dijon is a grat spot, but we liked Beune even better.
