Teaching in Ban Phe

A November 2002 trip to Ban Phe by Ben Jam In

After doing a TEFL certificate here I spent a lot of time laying in a hammock and teaching at English camps. With Ko Samet just a stone's throw away, Ban Phe is good if you want to get away from Pattaya.

During snack break with one of the English camps I was working at, we went to the beach to pick up the cakes and drinks. As we got there, the women setting out the snacks were trying to get rid of the elephants that were trying to steal the food.

As New Year’s approached, the lanterns lit on the island of Ko Samet rose into the sky. With the sound of the sea just yards away, the sky lit up, and good food to eat, it is a new year that takes some beating.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Ban Phe is quite small and you can walk most places. To get across to Ko Samet, go to Ban Phe pier where you can get a return boat ticket for 100 baht.

The Diamond Hotel rents out motorbikes for 250 baht per day. To get to Rayong, the nearest big town, a songthaew will cost 15-20 baht and take about half an hour.
