Our Week In Vegas

Overview

Welcome To Las Vegas! Photo, Las Vegas, New Mexico
Quote:
Las Vegas isn't just for old people with gambling problems -- tons of things to do for families.

Quick Tips:

Don't bother with the slummy street people handing out "escort service" brochures -- ignore them completely. What a waste of humanity.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking up and down the strip is a fine way to take it all in, just watch the traffic signs! A car is needed to get off the beaten path. Public transportation and cabs are abundant!

Best Things Nearby:The Strip is 20 minutes by car.Best Things About the Resort:The pool area.Resort Experience:The only drawback to these lovely former condos would be the constant sales tours parading back and forth all over the complex. Our two-bedroom unit was very nicely furnished and provided us with every imaginable piece of kitchenware. Beds are comfortable, as was the sofa sleeper in the living area. There is a small semi-private patio or balcony (depending on whether you're upstairs or down) that unfortunately overlooks only the parking lot. A small mountain range is in the distance, although construction of more housing is going to block that ...Read More

This is one of a hundred (or more) mega buffets in Vegas but the selection here was astounding! The price was in line with what we expected, but the quality/presentation was amazing. Seating capacity is huge, but the place never felt crowded either time we went (both for evening meals). A vast array of food choices with an international theme presented themselves in meticulous style. Everything we sampled we went back for seconds. The food was hot, fresh, and looked as good as it tasted. What amazed me was the presentation/quality for such mass numbers produced. I've been to local buffets only to find the food dried out or lacking in taste -- not this place! Excellent both nights!! Th...Read More

Attraction | "ATV Grand Canyon Tour"

Quote:
I was hesitant at first to spend this much money for a guided tour -- we are avid motocross riders and to have to "conform" to a group of non-riders seemed to stifle us at first. The tour lasted 6 hours, although a great part of this time was spent in the van to and from the hotel pickup/dropoff point and the incredibly lengthy "how to wear a helmet and how to ride an ATV" speech. But that's mandatory so you deal with it. Once the tour began, there were so many unusual rock formations and desert flowers, animals and other things that I could hardly identify. We took a disposable camera, but in hindsight, I wish I'd brought the Camcorder along. The tour guides won't let you venture away from the g...Read More

This roller coaster begins inside the New York Casino/Hotel on the strip. You get in your "taxi" and off you go. Soon you're outside in the Vegas sun and wind, far from New York! But the architecture and icons are with you; sometimes they're upside down, but they're there! Several loops and drops make this a thrill ride, so don't be fooled into thinking it's mild -- it isn't! I would rate this a 4 out of 5 (we rode it three times). As usual, remove loose objects (hats, glasses, cameras) and hang on. There is a photo booth as you exit and the pictures come in a nifty souvenir card frame – the price was reasonable too. There isn't a real "viewing" area for those who don't take part in the r...Read More

I'm terrified of heights and becoming more and more claustrophobic everyday. So what, you ask, would cause me to get in a crowded elevator and zoom up a thousand feet in the air? My kids wanting to ride these two thrill rides, of course. No one goes for free, even non-riders pay for the view. But it's worth it, believe me. We waited all week for the winds to calm down enough for this one to be operating, and it was worth the wait. We chose to go at night, to take in all the lights from the strip. It's amazing, all those lights flickering and how busy it all is and then just a few miles out, complete and total darkness. The ride is a roller coaster that snakes around the base of t...Read More
