Cancun - Hotel Casa Maya

A December 2002 trip to Cancun by MsVette

This was my first visit to Cancun.

Just relax and enjoy the beach. The water is as blue as the brochures. Go to Isla Mujeres. Garaffon Park is beautiful.

Quick Tips:

if you need to shop, Wal-Mart is downtown. There is a market downtown for souvenirs although the prices are better on Isla Mujeres. If you take the Fast Cat to Isla, it is quite a few blocks to downtown.

Best Way To Get Around:

The buses run regularly and they are inexpensive. Not too hard to find your way back as the Hotel is just outside the enormous Flag Pole (although I never did see a flag up).

If you take a taxi from the hotel . . . the price is set at the hotel. DO NOT ask the man how much you owe him when you arrive at your destination . . . or you WILL get charged more.

The facility was in the process of a facelift. The room I received was one that had been done, so it was fairly nice. A little mildew in the corners/ceilings. The view from the balcony was of the empty pool. None of them were in commission and they were literally chiseling out tile. The beach was beautiful and the location good.

Best Things Nearby:
The beach, fast cat to Isla Mujeres, Fat Tuesdays.

Best Things About the Resort:
The staff is friendly and the location is good. The beach is safe to swim off. No huge waves as Isla Mujeres lies just out front of it.

Resort Experience:
The facility was getting a facelift while I was there. The pools were out of commission and they were chiseling out the tiles. The hot tubs were small. The room I was in had been upgraded and was nice, some of the others were not so nice. The suites they used to sell you a timeshare . . . immaculate.

Restaurant

The hotel has a really nice dinner every evening near the pools. The food was always wonderful and the service fabulous. The menu varied each night from buffet to more formal dinner, depending on which night you attended.

Attraction | "White Beaches in Cancun!"

Hotel Casa Maya is beach front. The beach area is large with plenty of chairs and palapas. Drink service is prompt and the in the evenings you can see the lights of Isla Mujeres.

The lobby can set up any tours you may be interested or scuba/snorkel trips. There were no boats, jet skis, etc. on site but they were available about a 5-minute walk down hotel zone.
