Restaurant

Something for everyone. All kinds of ethnic and local dishes. Go early in the evening as it becomes very crowded. Service is good. A very good value.

Leopard LodgeBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

The Leopard Lodge is about an hour and a half drive (64 miles/70 km) northwest of Johannesburg in the town of Broederstroom. The guest lodge is in a nature reserve high in the mountains overlooking the Hartbeespoort Dam. Before lunch we refreshed ourselves with drinks and enjoyed the beautiful view from the garden. The lunch was a buffet with a beautiful salad bar and excellent dessert bar.

Apartheid MuseumBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

The Apartheid Museum is fascinating as it gives a historical and political accounting of what apartheid is, why it was created, and finally why and how the apartheid laws have been dissolved. We spent three hours in this museum and could have spent at least three more.

Gold Reef CityBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This is an amusement park that is a replica of an 1890s town built during the Gold Rush. There are lots of shops and restaurants. The highlights are seeing gold melted down to make gold bars and going down into a gold mine. There are also dancers that perform the traditional “gumboot” dance. This dance was created to alleviate boredom in the evenings when the miners were away from home working.

Barnyard TheatreBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

The Barnyard is an up-market indoor venue where you may bring you own picnic and drinks or you may purchase wine, beer, coffee, nuts, or cookies there. Glory Days was a production of comedy and music from the 1980s. The MC played a stereotypical nerd. There were three vocalists, a four-piece band, and a two-piece brass section. Two for one night on Tuesday and Sunday.
