A March 2000 trip to Burlington by ChrisTrav
Quote: In March, my girlfriend and I took a last-minute weekend trip to Vermont. What a great getaway. Burlington and the surrounding area offers a terrific mix of history, nature, and modern enjoyment. It was exactly what we were looking for.
Overview
Head east on I-89 to Montpelier. It's a beautiful, small town (the state capitol). The mountain scenery makes great driving. If you head back to Burlington for the nightlife, expect limited parking. The city is walking-friendly downtown.
If home for you is south, follow US-7 South to Shelbourne. The Shelbourne Museum offers great fun, history and spectacular views of Lake Champlain. The Vermont Teddy Bear Company is also in Shelbourne. Take the tour, it's memorable. If you're heading home via the NYS Thruway, take the car ferry just south of Shelbourne across Lake Champlain. It cuts an hour off the trip!
