Mandalay Bay Resort and CasinoBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Mandalay Bay"

The hotel was wonderful. We stayed in an executive suite. It was the size of a one-bedroom apartment. The view was spectacular. You saw the strip to the left out the window and the sunrise to the right.

The pool area was spectacular. The wave pool, beach sand, and lazy river make by far the best pool in Vegas. The service was exceptional. You have everything at the tip of your fingers.

Best Things Nearby:
Venitian, Ceasars, Bellagio.

Best Things About the Resort:
The rooms were large and the staff were helpful.

Resort Experience:
The resort is spread out and requires crossing several busy avenues to get to the main lobby. Each building is gated and security is always around. It is highly necessary for security to be very good because the neighborhood is less than desirable. It is located just behind Harrahs Casino and close to the middle of the strip. I would compare is to a Motel 6.

The rooms were a good size, clean, and in good repair. The pools and outside common areas were very dirty. There was so much dirt on the chairs by the pool that we could not even lay outside. There is noisy construction over the resort because the new monorail is practically over some of the buildings. This contruction also causes a lot of the dirt and dust outside the resort. The resort does serve a nice continental breakfast and a bagel breakfast.

I would have like to seen the sidewalks and the pool area more clean. You also became filthy if you touched the railings going up any of the stairs. We had a whole week but we checked out after five days to a better resort because our allergies could not handle the dirt and dust outside.

China GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

The China Grill is located inside Mandalay Bay hotel and casino. The atmosphere was very romantic. The food was excellent. I am from the East Coast and am very picky about my fish, especially sushi. We had a tempura for an appetizer and a tuna dish, and everything was wonderful. The portions are so large that they recommend they be split by two people.

House of BluesBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

The House of Blues is a very casual dining experience with atmosphere and music. The food is always good. I had a rack of ribs and boston creme pie desert. The service was great with good atmosphere.

Victorian RoomBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This is a restaurant inside of Barbary Coast. The food was good and economical. They have many early morning specials. It does get quite busy after 9:30am. It also has a nice Victorian atmosphere.

Sahara BuffetBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

The Sahara buffet was not as good as I expected. The food was dry and tasted like it had been out for a while. There was a large selection of food and desserts. The coffee was good and well needed by this point.

Grand Lux CafeBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This was a lovely restaurant. The tables are a little close together, but the atmosphere is nice. We had the largest salads I have ever seen. I had a polynesian salad, which was wonderful, and my husband had a ceasar salad. Both hit the spot. The service was great. The restaurant was quiet and relaxing. Maybe that was because of the good wine selection.

Madame Tussaud's Celebrity EncounterBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Madame Tussaud's"

The museum is divided into many different part were the celebrities are categorized. Rock stars are together. Older actors like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are together with Debbie Reynolds. Madonna and Billy Idol are with Bruce Springsteen. The new Britney Spears wax figure is most interesting with her contortion around a stripper’s pole. It was very fun and good for many laughs.

We decided to get married on our trip to Vegas. We did not know what to expect so I found the www.avegaswedding.com website. The pictures were so beautiful. We were married on Boulder Overlook, which looks out from the mountains over Las Vegas. The wedding was at sunset with the sun going down in the background. We stayed and watched as all the lights from the city turned on at once. It was a spectacular sight and a wonderful service. The wedding was performed by a reverend from a local church. We were picked up by the photgrapher and brought to Boulder Overlook. It was a lovely scenic ride. We were also served cake and champagne as the sun set behind us. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

It took us several days to realize just because it looks close does not mean it is. There is a lot of walking up and down the strip. There is trolley service available for $1.75 and you must have exact change. Many of the resorts also have shuttles available for a price. Use them or you will be very sore by day two.

On every corner someone is offering you "free" drinks or shows. There is always a catch. Every free show requires you to buy at least one drink and much more than the drink costs, or you need to sign up for a players card for that casino.

We were so dazzled for the first few days with the crowds, the size of the casinos, and the fact that they are shoving pornography in your face at every corner. Couples are better off walking a small distance from each other as you will be bothered less. They prey on couples and don't bother you if you appear to be walking alone. We did have a lovely week and got a lot of exercise. The weather there is beautiful.
