Bellissimo, Italy

An October 1999 trip to Tuscany by Mary Ann M

Quote: Our very best vacation yet. Started in Rome (my husband said crazy, hectic (NY on drugs) proceeded on to Tuscany (glorious and lazy) on to Venice (awesome) and finished up in Lake Como (spectacular). Drove ourselves. Totally set-up trip myself (no travel agents!). Great way!

Overview

Quote:
Rome - Colusseum, St. Peter's, Sistine Chapel, Piazza Novona - etc. The usual, but all spectacular as first time visitors to the 'Eternal City.' Great Shopping - leather, jewelry etc. Stayed at a B&B within the city and felt like a resident. Watch out for the gypsies who pickpocketed my husband for about .00 (sounds worse in Lira). Stayed at a old farmhouse in Tuscany. Ate figs from their trees, great dinners in their wonderful converted stable (sounds crazy, but the farmhouse renovated with wonderful antiques, library, ancient, but delightful comfortable rooms. Venice - stayed in another B&B in the heart of things, went touristing on the Vaporatti (water bus) along with the resi...Read More

Rooms were lovely (total of 8) with antiques everywhere. Modern bathrooms with terra-cotta floors and plenty of hot water. A lovely fully stocked library also greeted us and looking somewhat bedraggled, were promptly offered tea and biscuits by our hostess and her yo...Read More

Since we stayed at La Bandita B&B this delightful restaurant was our wonderful dining experience for our regrettably only four day stay! Ancient renovated stable, yes stable, with roaring fireplace each evening, was the setting for an every night inexpensive wonderful meal. Such items on the extensive menu: ex: Appetizer - Tuna with White Beans, Tuscany Soups, Pastas - Ravioli stuffed with Vegetables, Pasta with Red Cabbage Sauce, Gnocchi Tuscany Style, Meats - Stew of Game, Grilled Steak with Argola or Trufels, Tuscany Style Duck. At the moment I'm reading from the menu, so attractive, that it now hangs framed in a prominent spot in my kitchen. Totally loved this, out of the way restaurant...Read More
