Myrtle Beach in the Fall

An October 2003 trip to Myrtle Beach by Edra

We returned to Myrtle Beach for a quiet week away from family and responsibilites. Mytle Beach is a great place for relaxing, and also for great shows and shopping.

The shows are a must at Myrtle Beach. There is something to suit everyone's taste, from country to Broadway.

Quick Tips:

Always pick up books/brochures for coupons. Some really nice restaurants have early-bird specials that can save a lot. As at home, matinees are less expensive at the movie theaters.

Best Way To Get Around:

You must have a vehicle to get around in Myrtle Beach. The area is quite large. We stayed in Surfside Beach and drove to North Myrtle Beach every day for shopping, dining, and siteseeing.

Best Things Nearby:
Legends Theater is only about 1 mile. Also, Crabby Mikes restaurant.

Best Things About the Resort:
It was very clean.

Resort Experience:
The unit was somewhat hard to find since we arrived after dark. If we had arrived before dark, it would not have been a problem though. We stayed in a hotel unit on the second floor with a king size bed and sleeper sofa. I immediately noticed the cleanliness of the unit. For beach properties, this is unusual. There was dining area and small kitchen area with microwave, hot plate, dishwasher, and small refrigerator. A washer and dryer were also in the unit. The tub had a Jacuzzi. It was roomy enough for two, but I would not want to have three unless it was a small child.

We did not participate in any of the activities that were offered, but there were many things on the calendar every day from craft classes to aerobics and water exercises. We were able to purchase tickets for shows in Myrtle Beach at the front office. Check-in and out were handled efficiently.

Restaurant | "Crabby Mikes"

We have found this to be the BEST calabash buffet. The food is well prepared and plentiful. My husband likes the crab legs here better than any of the other in the area.

My favorite thing other than the food is the decor of the restaurant. In one dining room you will think you are in a small fishing town. All sorts of "doorways" tell the story of what life is like in the town. The other dining rooms are more like an aquarium. Both are very colorful and fun to explore. There are "schools of fish" swimming from the ceiling.

It is the cutest restaurant I have seen in my life. If you are staying in Myrtle Beach, the drive out to Surfside Beach is well worth your time. With coupons you can save $3 per buffet meal before 6pm. Legends Theater is nearby.

This is a unique restaurant inside Broadway at the Beach. We arrived in time for the "early bird special", which was two dinners for less than $20. The food was exceptional. We had fried shrimp with baked potatoes and added one side salad to share. The waiter had suggested we only purchase one as it was plenty to share. It was served with a warm loaf of bread. The setting was lovely. We sat at a table overlooking the lagoon. The regular men items were not overpriced. We will most likely return there on our next trip.

We heard an ad on the radio for Pier 14 and decided to look for it (it is behind The Wayfarer). We went for lunch as the ad had said lunch for under $6. We were pleasantly surprised. Although the look of the place was not great, the food made up for the interior.

I had popcorn shrimp and had more than I could eat. It was served with fries. My husband had flounder and I shared my shrimp with him. We did not like the tea so we asked the waitress to bring us some water. She asked if we didn't like the tea. She took the drinks off our bill, so we indeed had lunch for around $12. As we eat, we watched others go out on the pier to fish. There were tables outside for dining, but the weather was uncertain so we choose to eat inside.
