Our first RCI vacation. Went to relax, sightsee, shop, and eat good Mexican food. This trip far exceeded our expectations.

My husband and I enjoyed walking the Costera and shopping in the markets. He really liked the free Corona in ALL the jewelry stores. Don't miss the cliff divers, the Fiesta at the Mayan Palace, the Artisan Market, any boat tour of the bay, and the wave runners! All were fantastic.

Quick Tips:

Go to the Mayan Palace for the 90 minute timeshare spill and get your two free fiesta tickets, two tickets for the Bay Tour by boat, and a week's pass to the Mayan Palace Resort. They even gave us the most wonderful breakfast buffet.

Best Way To Get Around:

We rented a car and could go where we wanted, when we wanted. Buses and taxis were ample and I would not have hesitated to use them. Our hotel was in the middle of the bay so we walked every day. We walked to breakfast, lunch, and dinner along the beach, along the Costera, to the markets, through the shops. We drove to Walmart for water and beer of course, and to the Mayan Palace, Senor Frogs, the malls, and just to see what could be seen.

Beautiful. King-size bed, ceramic floors, huge marble bathroom, and balcony overlooking the bay.

We received a warm greeting from staff, which was very helpful. Immaculate resort. The pool was awesome!!! We watched the bungee jumping and sunsets from the pool. We rented table with an umbrella on the public beach and just soaked it all in. We also rented a See Doo for an hour and rode around the entire bay! Would go back in a heartbeat.

The staff was so much fun. The food was great and you get what you pay for. We ate here two or three times because we liked it so much. It is an open-air restaurant and we sat on the edge to "people watch". Wonderful drinks and the atmosphere was fun. Don't miss it.

What a blast. The waiter greeted us with big red plastic lips and waited on us hand and foot. The atmosphere was too much fun. There were signs everywhere . . . my husband sat under one that said "I'm sexy". We went for lunch and there were families as well as business men and women dining there. There is a "Caution! Drunk Crossing" sign in the parking lot. Lots of fun. Open-air restaurant with a wonderful view. Another one not to miss. And don't forget to get a T-shirt!

Walking distance from our hotel on the Costera this place was great. We ate breakfast there twice it was so good and VERY reasonably priced. Be careful of the basket of pastries on your table. There are 6 pastries, but if the last customers ate 2 then they leave the 4 that were picked over and add 2 more so there are 6 again. Hmm. Other than that, the waffles are wonderful and the tropical fruit drinks are refreshing. Eggs however you want them and beans even in the morning. Great atmosphere in this open air restaurant. Palm tree lights that light up green in the evening.

Awesome! We booked this through the hotel. We were picked up in a Lincoln and the tour guide told us some background of the cliff divers and what to expect when we arrive. The restaurant was in the cliff. We entered at the top and walked down to the tables. We viewed a wall with many celebrity signatures. Food was wonderful and the waiter was great. Tour included 2 drinks, salad, meal, dessert, show, and transportation for $70 each (if I remember correctly.) We even got to meet the divers as they walked through the restaurant in their Speedos.

Awesome!!! Went to the Fiesta and waited in a long line. No problem -- we met several people from the US and talked so much the time flew by. We were greeted with red bandanas and a ceramic shot glass, which we hung from our neck. We were asked to do a shot of tequila and then given a spiked fruit drink or a beer. We sat at a huge round table with 8 other people and we all hit it off and had a ball. The food was LAID OUT. That was what it was all about. DO NOT MISS THE FIESTA. Even a separate room for desserts alone as well as an after dinner "shot". Mmm. The entertainment was wonderful with singing and dancing and audience participation. The hospitality and service was tremendous. I sure hated it to end, but when it did, we went to the lounge area and participated in a game of "Name That Tune". Lots of good clean fun!!!

Attraction | "Taxco, Mexico"

The highlight of our trip, and only because I have to pick one, would be the trip to Taxco. This is where silver is mined and craftsmen create stunning jewelry. The trip started at 6am and we were picked up in the lobby by Victor, our tour guide. We were the only ones from the hotel so we had very personalized service. The drive in the air-conditioned Intrepid was 3 hours through the countryside. We saw buses lined up in the "suburb" just outside Acapulco for people who work in the hotels to get to work. The countryside was beautiful. We saw little villages, men on donkeys wearing sombreros, and even cactus. Victor told us about the cities, the leaders, the history . . . awesome.

Taxco was beautiful!!! Looked like Spain. Cobblestone streets, old churches, dozens of long stem roses for sale in the street and THE BEST silver I have ever seen. The monastery renovated into a hotel was awesome with the candles in the restaurant dripping wax onto the floor for years. Culture...pure Mexico. Taxco was chilly in the mountains in June/July. We went in shorts, tank tops and sandals. But you should wear sleeves and good walking shoes. Out tour included lunch at a fabulous restaurant on a hilltop overlooking the beautiful city. Silver prices were down to earth . . . I bought so much as Christmas gifts.

Attraction | "Walmart"

Yes, Walmart. Funny to see Walmart prices in pesos. We bought our water, beer, and snacks here. Also bought bags of Mexican candies to bring home. T-shirts, postcards, shot glasses, magnets, film . . . Same thing -- it's Walmart! You return your beer bottles for deposit. Pastry area is open to the flies. Yuk. No doughnuts for us, thank you. We parked our rental car in the parking garage -- we had no pesos to pay to get out and they wouldn't take US dollars. We had to go back in, buy more junk, pay by debit card, and get cash back in pesos. Live and learn. We probably went to Walmart 5 or 6 times. You can never get enough beer or . . . water!
