Overview

the soul through the eyes
Don't miss the Carnaval during Easter time (call or find out on the internet the exact dates). There are 2 weeks of celebrations. Try to get there for the first weekend because there are less people around, but still beautiful masks walking. Wake up early and walk through small piazzas.

Quick Tips:

The best way to discover Venice is to get lost! Have a good map and then as soon as you find someone ask for the main spots: La Stazione (the train station), San Marco, Rialto . . . and you will find your way around. Most people follow the masses and don't get to see the real Venice!

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking of course . . . but don't miss a vaporetto ride at night through the Canal Grande -- it's simply magical! Venice at night is particularly beautiful and quiet.

Hotel

Nothing fancy, but the place is clean and in a strategic position quite close to the train station. We paid 60 euro for a double bed. Talk to Sra. Matilde and she may give you an even better price. Venice is not cheap, but this is a good deal.

The best Venetian food in town. My grandma is from Venice and I have been going there almost every year. This place, if you ask around, everyone (from Venice--the locals) know about it. If you like fish, it's a must!
