I did not know what to expect at the timeshare in Aberfoyle, Scotland. It was a good hour drive from the Edinburgh Airport and sort of in the middle of nothing. The countryside with the lakes, sheep, highland cows, etc. was peaceful when it was not raining. Each morning was gloomy but by noon it was beautiful and sunny and still sunny at 10pm. The area around Loch Lomond was nice but the mountains of Scotland are nothing like Austria or the Alps. The English Border Collie dog show at the Aberfoyle Wool Center was nice and the presenter also has a traditional Scottish Celeih band; ask him where he is playing and go for some Scottish Dancing and food. The grocery store in Aberfoyle was not much; shop in Stirling. There were restaurants in Loc Lomond 20 minutes from Aberfoyle. Take the train from Stirling to Edinburgh to see the sights. The double bus tour was wonderful, shopping along the "Mile" was nice and the castle was great. There is also a neat underground tour in Edinburough. Aberfoyle was full of "no see ‘em" bugs biting at this time of year so take the "Skin So Soft" by Avon. The evening ghost hike was ruined by the bugs. The tour of the distillery was very interesting but it was not in production at this time because they give all the staff a vacation. The local people who worked at the resort were very helpful as well as the Aberfoyly Visitors’ Center. I would suggest a timeshare on the coast closer to the St. Andrews area instead. The drive up that coastline was very pretty and being closer to Edinburgh was better as Glasgow was too commercial rather than a tourist town. The Kilconquer Timeshare was great and nicely located.

Quick Tips:

Central Scotland is not the greatest place to get the timeshare, although they were very large units at the Macdonald Aberfoyle Resort.

Best Way To Get Around:

You are lost without a car. The roads are VERY narrow around Aberfoyle and right along the lake. Practice driving on the left side of the road before you tackle these roundabouts.
