The Forbidden City Best of IgoUgo

Overview

Quote:
There are so many places to visit it is hard to cover many of them. Of course the temple of Heavenly Peace, the Forbidden City, Mao Tse Tung's Mausoleum and Tian An Men Square are among the most famous.

Quick Tips:

If possible, visit the summer palace of the Emperor. It is truly outstanding, but first one must see the Forbidden City. The Temple of Heavenly Peace is perhaps the most impressive of all.

Best Way To Get Around:

There are literally hundreds of taxis all over the place. I wouldn't recommend the buses.

Hotel | "Shangri-La"

Quote:
This was one of the latest Western style hotels run by experienced hotel managers. The rooms were luxurious, the service excellent and the choice of restaurants from Chinese to French was superb.

The service was highly attentive, the food prepared by a French chef. Every mouthful was excellent. At the time we were there there was no tipping in China, but they did make an exception at the hotel.

Ming Tombs Best of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Tour to the Ming emperor tombs and the Great Wall"

Quote:
China is like no other place. While most people are quite friendly there is a serious language barrier and their customs often are very different from ours. For example, when we visited a school and the students performed for us, we were warned not to give any gifts to the children, but we could give them to the teacher for distribution. The streets are enormously crowded and there is much shoving and pushing. There is a special currency for foreigners and it is highly desired by the natives.
