Overview

Quote:
This is a small and very beautiful town, dominated by a 15th century hospital, many very old buildings and of course many wine cellars.

Quick Tips:

Make an early lunch stop at one of the many restaurants, sit, sip some wine, eat some good food and watch the tourists go by. One hears many different languages spoken and the tour buses come early and often. Fortunately they park away from the center of town.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking, or as oft observed staggering, is the only way.

We were on a river cruise along the Rhone and the Saone rivers and slept and ate on the motor ship Arlene, but took a bus tour to Beaune which took about one hour.

All meals were taken in the ships dining room and the food was not only excellent and plentiful, but the service was very attentive and the company delightful.

Just walk around and ask if the wine cellar is open or when it will open and make an appointment. Be prepared to taste test many different vintages, wines, liqueurs, etc.

Attraction | "Center of Beaune"

Quote:
Aside from the wineries and the ancient hospital, the Hospice du Beaune which dates from the 15th century, the city abounds in historic and beautiful buildings since it was once the home of the Dukes of Burgundy. Among them worth a visit are the Hotel Dieu, the city hall; Eglise Notre Dame, the local church; and most of all the Musee du Vin de Bourgogne, the wine museum. No free drinks here. But very enlightening.
