Lake Fayette

A travel journal to Fayetteville by Mermaid

Lake Fayette is an LCRA cooling lake for a power plant and a popular recreational site for locals. At 2,400 acres, there is plenty of fun to be had.

Overview

There are two water access points and swimming beaches at Park Prairie and Oak Thicket Park, both off of TX 159 on the north side of the lake. The water is quite warm and good for swimming.

Quick Tips:

Fayetteville is a very small town without much "to do". If you're looking for a place to eat or stay, try nearby La Grange.

Best Way To Get Around:

Park PrairieBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

This fourteen-acre park has a designated swimming area on a small peninsula. There isn’t really a sandy beach but just an abrupt and shallow shoreline. Expect to share the water with some friendly ducks. There is plenty of paved parking, potable water, rest rooms, a boat ramp and primitive camping. A sand volleyball court and a 3-mile multi-use trail add to the fun. There are picnic tables with grills and great views of the lake. Wheelchair-accessible.

Oak Thicket ParkBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

At eighty-five acres, Oak Thicket is bigger than Park Prairie and has more campsites with RV hookups, showers, a lighted pavilion and a playground. Oak Thicket has a sandy beach where the lake gently laps to shore. The Rice-Osborne Bird and Nature Trail connects the two parks.
