Lake BastropBest of IgoUgo

Overview

The park is located not far from the heart of Bastrop, but has an ‘away-from-it-all’ feeling. The landscape is so unlike anything else in Texas that you feel transported to a far-away place. And with Bastrop so close by, if you get an urge for a meal in a restaurant or other amenities, everything is readily available. They take reservations and are open year-round. The endangered Houston Toad is often spotted near the water's edge.

Quick Tips:

Bastrop is only about 30 minutes from Austin, so if you're planning an extended trip be sure to drive up to the capital city. You could also visit or camp at Bastrop State Park which is just up the highway from the lake.

Story/Tip

North Shore Park is a twenty-three-acre park offering swimming, camping, picnicking, canoeing, windsurfing, sailing and water-skiing. There is a public boat ramp for motor and sailboats. Swimming areas are designated around the shore, but no lifeguards are on duty.

The park has 66 campsites, 44 of which have electricity and potable water, and 14 of which have water only. Eight sites have screened shelters. Hot showers are available, and each campsite has a picnic table and grill.

South Shore ParkBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Recently renovated, South Shore Park has modern camping facilities such as paved camp sites, RV hookups, electricity, and a sanitary dump station. If you prefer primitive camping, South Shore Park can accommodate you. There are picnic sites with grills, hot showers, rest rooms, a boat ramp, and water-skiing, sailing and canoeing. The swimming area is protected from boats but no lifeguards are on duty. This park has a group picnic pavilion, a playground, and volleyball and horseshoe pits. Firewood can be bought at the park or brought in, but not gathered in the park.
