Best Things About the Resort:
Very spacious, and literally right on the beach. It is in a little cove away from everything on a bluff overlooking the bay.
Resort Experience:
Avila Beach is heaven for those that love the beach for its quiet majesty. My favorite activity was going out on the balcony overlooking the ocean at 6am and just quietly listening to the ocean waves and the distant barking of the Harbor seals.
The resort itself is very well manicured, has a great pool and spa overlooking the ocean (although the Jacuzzi was having "heat" issues"). The lobby is great, there is a book with all the local restaurants menus, a game closet to check out board games, and a little grocery store.
The best thing about Avila is the location. It is about a 20 minute drive to Morro Bay, a 10 minute drive to San Luis Obispo, with a great Thursday night farmers market, and Pismo Beach along with others are all within easy access.
The only problem we had was with a toilet that was literally shaking the room with trapped air or something at 2am the first night, and no one from maintenance was available until 7am the next morning. But they were there first thing and got it fixed right away. Overall the entire resort was very clean and well laid out. We will definitely be returning.
