Puerto Plata in March

A March 2003 trip to Puerto Plata by Dawn W

My husband and I went with another couple and had a great time. I would highly recommend this resort. The restaurants were very good. The entertainment was great. I don't think we had a bad experience here at all.

We did a day trip to the waterfalls, but we got to see a lot more than just the waterfalls. We went to local stores, saw how the people there live every day, went to the school, and had lunch at a restaurant along the way (where the people cooked us what they like) -- it was a lot of fun.

Quick Tips:

If you go here and plan on touring, take some things to give out to the kids -- they pretty much expect it, but we didn't know and felt bad that we had nothing to give out. When touring, the tour guide tells you where to give out the stuff and where not to. They don't like you giving it to the well-to-do areas -- they like you to give it to the poor areas. Take candy, pencils, or anything you can buy in bulk -- you pretty much just throw it in the air and they come running for it. I don't recommend you throwing it to them -- they attack you and it can be a bit dangerous.

Best Way To Get Around:

We mainly took buses and taxis. We did do some walking from our resort to a little mall by our resort. We also went into a close resort and checked their place out.

Best Things Nearby:
There is a mall within walking distance -- we went there on two different occasions and just walked around.

Best Things About the Resort:
We were really glad we had the option for the all-inclusive. We thought it was great.

Resort Experience:
There is entertainment every night. The entertainers were great. They even do activities during the day and they try to include everyone. We had a really great experience at this resort. The beach area was very nice also. It had a swim-up bar in the pool, bar around the pool, bar on the beach, and a bar on the way to the beach.

Our sleeping accommodations were a full bed downstairs, with living room and partial kitchen, and spiral steps going upstairs to the full bathroom and a bedroom. Very spacious for two couples.
