A July 2003 trip to Mesquite by jojowp

A nice place for family and a good jumping off point.

Overview

My daughter and I enjoyed Mesquite. The Oasis has many pools with a fun family pool. The rooms were nice and large even though it is an older resort. It worked out nicely being able to drive into Utah and go to Zion (a close day trip) and Bryce (a long day trip), as well as go down toward Vegas to see the Hoover Dam. Coming back from Utah was nice because of the time change -- we had that extra hour to swim at night. Yes, it is hot, but it was much quieter than Vegas -- my 12 year old likes it much better, so we'll stay there whenever we're out that way.

Quick Tips:

Grocery stores in town so it's easy to cook -- we bought microwaveable food, so it didn't take too long after a lot of driving (plus we could get to the pool more quickly or swim first and eat really late). Restaurants were OK -- same with casinos (not much in Mesquite if you're a gambler). Lots of golf.

Best Way To Get Around:

Drive with air-conditioning on full! You can walk around the resort easily, but it's hot in the summer -- take water!

The one bedrooms were very nice -- two older hotel rooms remodeled into two rooms. Very clean and nice kitchen/bath. TVs in both rooms. Nice welcome basket with wine and food. Family of four would fit fine -- no privacy if you have four adults since one couple would sleep in living room on sofa bed, which was not too comfortable. Works for kids.

Attraction

Beautiful -- a must see. Drive through and take the tram -- we did it in two afternoons, but it can be done in a day. If you're doing Zion and Bryce and have time to see another national park, get a Parks Pass.
