I was very happy with our accommodations at the Rex St. Lucian. Since we booked this vacation package through Expedia, I'm not exactly sure about the room price, and we opted to go without the "all-inclusive" meal plan, which turned out to be a good choice, according to other vacationers. We heard that the food was just mediocre, which is a shame when we experienced such good food around town. The hotel beach was beautiful! The only downfall is that they allow anyone on, which means TONS of souvenir solicitors. Just politely refuse them and they will leave you alone.

Friday Night Jump Up

Attraction | ""Jump Up""

Quote:
Every Friday night, the northern village of Gros Islet hosts "Jump Up." This is a combination of street dancing and a street fair. Hundreds of locals and tourists take up the entire main street with Caribbean food, dancing and music. Huge speakers are set up at the end of the street, blasting various reggae beats. You can buy the island's beer, along with various souvenirs from the street vendors. You will leave feeling like you were just one of the locals, since they are very friendly and inviting...just be sure not to wander down any of the dark side streets. Remember, safety in numbers.

St. Lucia Distillers

Attraction | "Bananas and Rum...Yum!"

We hired a taxi driver to show us the most popular sights. (Prices are ALWAYS negotiable!!) He took us through the banana plantations and then on to the St. Lucia Rum Distillers. Here they make their famous "Bounty Rum." Inside is a bar where you can sample at least 10 different rums. Let's just say you leave happy!

Sulphur Springs

Attraction | "Sulphur Springs (the drive-thru volcano)"

Sulphur Springs Photo, St. Lucia, Caribbean
Quote:
I particularly liked this excursion, since you can literally "drive up" to the rim of a volcano and walk around the craters, which expel sulfur fumes. Hence the name, Sulphur Springs, which I loved. It's a hot spring containing silt from the volcano and supposedly has curative properties. I'm not sure about the health benefits, but after wading in it, my skin was baby-soft.

Quote:
St. Lucia is home of the famous Pitons (Gros Piton and Petit Piton). These two beautiful mountains rise out of the sea near Soufriere. They are a great backdrop for pictures! If nature's what you want, then nature's what you get when visiting St. Lucia. The island has some of the most interesting-looking flowers and plants. And don't forget the waterfalls! One more thing...every year, St. Lucia is host to one of the biggest jazz festivals around. Don't miss it!
