Honeymoon Haven

An August 2000 trip to Squaw Valley by Cindy in Otto

Squaw Valley is beautiful! It's just a few miles from Lake Tahoe and has a lot of hiking trails and skiing.

Overview

We got married in South Lake Tahoe and spent our honeymoon in the resort in Squaw Valley. It was our first time in the Lake Tahoe area and we could not believe the incredible beauty of the area. We did lots of hiking and driving around just looking at the sights and the beautiful homes.I would definitely like to purchase a timeshare there in the future.

Quick Tips:

If you go, you must visit the Ponderosa Ranch on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe and also visit Emerald Bay. We were there in late August and there was rain some of the time so we did not participate in any water activities. Next visit we will definitely do that. The water is this amazing color of blue-green.

Best Way To Get Around:

A car is the best way to get around.
Best Things Nearby:
Squaw Valley ski area, Lake Tahoe, casinos, Ponderosa Ranch, Emerald Bay.

Best Things About the Resort:
The unit was beautiful and very well furnished. It had a fireplace, kitchen, and a balcony that overlooked the pool and wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. The staff was very accommodating and gave us the best suite available because it was our honeymoon.

Resort Experience:
Though it rained most of the time we were there and kept us from participating in any water activities, we had a wonderful time. We hiked, visited several sights, and just spent time driving around taking in the natural beauty of the area and Lake Tahoe. While were there it snowed (on September 3rd!), which was the earliest snowfall on record for the area. The staff delivered firewood for our fireplace.
