This would be a beautiful hotel if the construction were completed. The grounds were meticulously cut with the exception of the bug spraying clouds after dinner, which would float up to your rooms! The rooms were very nice and well kept!

Best Things Nearby:

Best Things About the Resort:
Great pool. The view from the room is nice, but it's a far walk to everything -- and ongoing construction surrounding the hotel is ugly and distracting.

Resort Experience:
It's about 10 minutes from downtown, so renting a car is by far the best way to get around. It has nice grounds with the exception of the surrounding construction. The pool is very nice and big. The beach is ok. Do not buy anything from the beach vendors as you can go to the flea market in town and buy everything for 75% less. They brand you by making you where a wrist band, so they know if they can attack you for a presentation or not. Hotel workers are not pleasant and very unaccommodating if you do not speak fluent Spanish -- they overcharge you at the gift shop and treat as a second-class citizen.

Well for one, do not trust the prices listed in your directory for room service -- they charge you more when it gets there. The special food festivities are overpriced and, depending on what time of year you go, you do not get the full experience. Food, as everything else at the resort, is OVERPRICED!

Do not pay full price for any specialty tours. Research online () or at other websites to see what you would like to do. You will be harassed to do a timeshare presentation wherever you go, so tell them what you want free and then go for your 90-minute presentation. Walk out after 90 minutes (do not let them keep you) -- be firm and threaten to stand up and scream if you have to if they don't let you go and give you your certificates. We got the Canopy Tour and Las Calestas tours for free.
You will find the timeshare vultures everywhere, but immediately at the airport, they will attack and even your hotel people will funnel you to them because they all work together. Be careful: do not give them money for anything!

Story/Tip

The best way to get around Puerta/Nuevo Vallarta is with your own car. Taxis will cost more than they should and public transportation is scary! With a car, you can eat where you want to and not rely on the pricy hotel food. Make sure you go to each car place and get the price you want and the car you want -- they are all willing to come down in price!
