Hawaii 2001:Kauai

Overview

Quote:
Best thing to do on Kauai? Relax. Really. Now one thing to keep in mind while you read this is we've never been to the western side of the island. Our timeshare is in Princeville in the northeast and you can't get to the western side easily from there. The eastern side is all tropical lushness and it makes us feel very relaxed. That's why we made Kauai the third island, we knew we would be tired from Oahu and Maui and all we wanted to do was just rest. I did a lot of walking around Princeville and my best walk was down the cliffs at our resort. I got some fantastic pictures (see timeshare entry) and had some wonderfully peaceful alone time. Just me, the rocks and the o...Read More

Best Things Nearby:Other than Kauai? Hanelei - I really liked that village.Best Things About the Resort:It's mine! Well, that and the view of the ocean from your room on top of the cliffs.Resort Experience:Back in '98 when we purchased, the units were undergoing renovations and we saw the original state. It was nice, but we were more motivated by the location fo the timeshare, rather than by the accommodations. Well, the renovations have long since been completed and I have to say they did an amazing job. The unit was so luxurious and comfortable. Add to that the view and I have to say I wish I could live there. We availed ourselves of the hot tub one ev...Read More

Neide's Salsa & Samba

Restaurant | "Neide's Salsa & Samba"

Yummy. I say Mexican, but only because RCI doesn't list Brazilian. Of course, I'm not sure what the difference is, but I can say this is a great place to eat. It's tucked in the back of Hanalei center and seems like a Mom and Pop joint, but the food is good and the prices reasonable. Definitely worth trying.

Bamboo Bamboo -- it’s a nice restaurant in the same area as Neide's Salsa & Samba. We ate out on the porch under the beautiful sky. No real view other than the town center but that was ok -- the cats were more than enough entertainment. Kauai actually has a cat population problem -- they are everywhere. Being a cat lover myself, I found it quite enchanting seeing cats everywhere. And it’s obvious, at least in Hanalei, that the people like them as well because there is food left out for them all over and the cats just seem to own everything. And because I was missing my own cats by this point, they were a welcome sight. Of course, I took care not to feed them from the table, but others ...Read More

You want a good burger? Go here. I say fast food, but don't think McDonald's or BK -- think big burgers, yummy fries, and picnic table eating.

Fathom Five Divers

Attraction

Quote:
Oh wow, did we have fun! We got up early and drove down from Princeville to Koloa - about an hour in the wee hours. Met up with the divers, we took the van down to the dock and onto a somewhat small boat and off we went. The first dive was at Zack's Pocket - bottom time of 32min and max depth of 70 ft. Visibility of 70-90ft. We saw many different fish, eels, corals but no turtles. There was a very strong current though - quite interesting. The second dive was at Harbor Ledges - its a new site for the company so the name might end up changing. We were at a depth of 64ft with a bottom time of 35min. What a wonderful place - there were turtles everywhere. Its just so amazing diving...Read More
