One has to go see the view from the top of the hill in Assisi -- breathtaking view of Peruggia in the valley. One has to go to the square in Assisi and walk along the narrow streets and see the lovely flowers there. We walked and walked. The food is good if you find the right restaurant -- most of the inexpensive ones close early if there is no one eating. People are friendly, especially if you speak Italian, which we did. One can do a lot of sightseeing there and bask in the enchanting views.
Quick Tips:
It is worth making the drive to Rome, which takes approximately 2 hours. We did and we saw St. Peter's Church and Square. Magnificent. You see the bodies of the saints and the crypts of most of the popes. We went to Florence as well and that was worth the drive, which again takes 2 hours. Florence is beautiful. The Ponte Vecchio is full of jewelry stores that are very expensive, but magnificent. Walking gets you to a lot of squares where many vendors sell their wares -- you have to really bring them down in price for silver or even paintings. Fashion is nice in Florence and the prices are not too bad either. A must visit.Best Way To Get Around:
Best way to get around in Assisi is by foot because it’s quite small. You get there by car. If you are staying in another town and visiting for the day, park the car and take public transportation – it’s cheaper and less aggravation than walking. This goes for Florence too -- public transit and walking will get you where you want to go.
