Kauai Hawaii Vacation

A March 2003 trip to Kauai by bjhheh

We have visited Kauai twice and found that this is one of our favorite of all the islands. Last spring, we spent two weeks in Hawaii, one week with our exchange week, and one with my sister-in-law's point week. A wonderful two week trip.

Kapaa is a quaint but busy town. Our condo was right on the ocean, and we were able to lay on the beach or around the resort pools. A good snorkling area was close by. We also did a kayak trip on the river with family and friends. The Hawaiian Village was very interesting, and the employees there were accommodating.

Quick Tips:

The Kauai Coast Resort at the Beachboy was a very wonderful resort and gave us a central location from which to tour and do other island activities. I would recommend this resort and would give it 4 stars.

The second resort we stayed at was in Princeville. This part of the island often has rain and other inclement weather patterns. We liked the Kapaa area much better.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way for us to get around Kauai was by car. We had two cars--one for each couple--and that made it very handy for each couple to do whatever they chose, if it was not a joint activity. We put many miles on each vehicle. We were able to tour the entire island and enjoy the beauty of Kauai.

We went to Duke's often to enjoy the different fish dishes. My husband loved the fish taco specials. Each member of our party had their favorite dish, and we ate them many times while we were in Kauai. We did not go upstairs to the fine dining, because we enjoyed the casual dining below.

We were able to watch the ships enter and leave their docks. We also did a lot of people watching and also watched the many windsurfers. Dukes was the most entertaining and fun place to dine. The food was superb.
