Baja CaliforniaMore Photos

A long trip driving from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas, reaching Ensenada first, the oasis of San Ignacio, going south through 400 kms of desert, to reach wonderful beaches on the Mar the Cortez and finally arrive in Cabo for, we thought it was, but it was not, a relaxing week in Cabo San Lucas!!!

Baja California
Driving across the desert, through the mex1 for hundreds of miles...almost lonely (no cars on the same way, because of the low season)…you have the sensation that that particular sunset in the desert, happened extra for you; it's a present of Nature!!

You'll get really surprise to see how the view change...few kilometers from desert and you arrive in San Ignacio , oasis with palms and green and old missions...sounds incredible!

Quick Tips:

Enjoy the wild nature, the colours of Baja...the friendly people you meet while you're on the way...Mexicans are really nice people.

Never forget to stop at each oil station and have always the tank full!! Thousands of miles wait for you before you encounter the next oil station...

Something else buy your presents for the family in Ensenada, or San Ignacio, or wherever before Cabo - Cabo, Mulege, Todos Santos are more expensive.

Best Way To Get Around:

Rented car, better jeep, due to not really good street conditions, especially when you encounter a hurricane!!! In our case it was Ignacio!!! This only delayed the departure from Mulege of 4 hours...no problem then!

The only pain about this subject was the money paid for "drop off" in Cabo - !! More than we paid to rent it (but as we did not have time to do 2000 more miles to go back to Tijuana....we paid !!)

Avoid going to Baja in September/October (hurricane season!)

Best Things Nearby:
Walking distance from everything; also near the beach, where the day life water sports and entertaiment takes place.

Best Things About the Resort:
For those who don't like sand, there's a beautiful swimming pool with a swim up bar and a spa (with a gym and Turkish baths for the rainy days).

Resort Experience:
The unit was very nice -- a large room, a nice American-style kitchen, large bath (with separate shower and bath), plenty of space in wardrobe, clean and with all you need for a pleasant and relaxing holiday. The hotel supplies you with a fridge that is already full of beverages and also provides food (coffee, milk, cakes, etc)--of course, you have to pay for these extras!

Cabo Wabo CantinaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Cabo Wabo Restaurant"

It's a really nice place on a terrace, with a view to a small square. It's located over the disco where concerts are often held due to the fact that the owner is Sammy Hagar, formerly of Van Hallen. They offer tequila and really good meat. It's a bit expensive, but really good.

Restaurant | "Amarone - Italian Restaurant"

It's a brand new restaurant. The owner arrived directly from Italy to bring the "Italian taste" around the world. He comes from Verona, Italy, where he owns a well-known restaurant all ready. There's not one special dish here because everything is really special, especially the wine Amarone! Try it, you'll like it!

El Pollo de OroBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This is a place used by the locals, therefore not touristic at all! Not really nice, I mean, with candles and nice waiters, but it's for those who want to live in the city as local people do!

Simply go to a restaurant to eat good fish and good chicken without caring about the presentation. This does not mean it's dirty, just that it's simple and not touristy.

This place came recommended by a Mexican friend living in Cabo, but unfortunately I don't exactly remember the name of the street, but everybody knows where it's at.

Attraction | "Refreshment"

CaboWabo
Cabo is full of music bars where you can drink and dance. Each bar offers a Ladies Night one day per week when they give out free drinks until 11pm. Even at the beach, several bars and restaurants offer you beverages and food -- they're a bit expensive, but you can have great time eating, drinking, and even swimming, while waiting for the sun to set. Suggested places to go for a drink: EL SQUID ROE; CABO WABO.

Sea Lions..
A really exciting holiday, all the way down from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas with a rented car, to visiting all the little Mexican villages, to arriving one week later in Cabo San Lucas.

After our late arrival in Tijuana, we started our long trip the day after with a Nissan Tsuru (not a nice car at all!). Tijuana was not dangerous as somebody had told us, but a nice place, where the colours of the fruit and vegetables at the market capture your attention. We were introduced the wonderful world of nature offered by this beautiful "narrow point of land of 1800km extending into the sea" where both Mar di Cortèz and the Pacific Ocean meet.

We left Tijuana with the enthusiasm of those who want to see as many things as possible and took the Mex1 towards Ensenada in order to see the geyser in the ocean and the place in Guerrero Negro where you can sometimes see whales -- unfortunately, the whales decided to swim to Alaska at this time of the year, so we did not see them. We did see the greatest "salinas" that produce one third of the world’s salt.

We continued on our trip, passing through miles of desert and breathtaking views. A hurricane broke the road to Loreto and La Paz, so we had to stay longer in Sant Ignacio, Santa Rosalia, and Mulege -- this was not so bad though because we met a nice Italian couple who joined us for the rest of the trip. Four people are better than two, but most of all, two cars are better than one, in case one breaks down!

We continued our trip to Loreto, a real Mexican village, and decides to rent a boat and bathe on the beautiful beaches of Mar de Cortez, spend a day by the sea, and what a sea!! Sadly, we had to leave this beautiful scenery and continue, but La Paz was waiting for us, with a marvellous "malecon" that calls you each night to see the sunset. Unforgettable! After another 200km, our road trip came to an end and we finally arrived in Cabo San Lucas for a relaxing week at the beach! Cabo offers many sport activities at the beach during the day, and several music bars and pub at nights where you can really have fun at night!!
