Lovely Leeds

A September 2002 trip to Leeds by MorganleFay

Quote: I spent a year in Leeds, getting to know the city, the country, and the people. Although Leeds is not the most well-known city in the UK, I cannot think of a better place to have spent the year.

Overview

Quote:
Two universities dominate Leeds, so there are tons of things to do. As in any English city, pubs are all over the place, and full of young people. The shopping in the city center is great, especially the Victoria Quarter, the Corn Exchange, and the Queen's Arcade. Follow the Otley Road north to find a thriving student area called Headingley, home of great pubs (visit the Original Oak), restaurants, and the Leeds rugby and cricket fields. Kirkstall Abbey

Attraction

Quote:
Leeds doesn't have quite the historical or cultural draw of other English cities like York, Bath, and London, but when you see Kirkstall Abbey, you wonder why. Kirkstall is a ruin of a medieval monastery. You can tell it once was a massive structure, but now as a ruin, it provokes more thought and awe. The abbey is surrounded by greenery, and is just beautiful. Parents bring their kids here to play in the park next to the river. It is also a great place to take a picnic lunch. Plus, it's free to see!
