If heights are a problem, driving south to north you are on the outside. But don't miss this drive. Great local restaurant. In a building hidden at the back, the main name is the Night Owl in front. It has everything, including steak, chicken, all kinds of ribs, served in large helpings with beans, slaw, pan bread, and potatoes. Lots of beers on tap as well, super friendly people, with even a resident magician.

Surrounded by forest fires

Both coming and going, we passed numerous forest fires out of control. The smoke at times was tough to take, but the sight of those beautiful woods burning was something to behold. At some locations, you could see how close to the highway the fires had come, the ground still covered with ash with only skeletons remaining of what had been trees.
