This was a family weekend getaway. Our first stop was Stone Hill Winery in Hermann. We have visited Stone Hill in Branson on many occasions, but this was our first visit to their home in Hermann. The winery is set on a hill overlooking this quaint town nestled in the Missouri River valley. There are several other wineries around Hermann, as well as a few nice bed and breakfasts. Hermann is located about 45 minutes west of St. Louis. Our next stop was in St. Louis at the Budweiser brewery. The tour takes you through the Clydesdale Stables, where you get an up-close look at these magnificent horses. You learn the history of Budweiser and see the whole beer-making process. The conclusio...Read More

Our original dinner plans included a visit to Historic Laclede’s Landing. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Laclede’s Landing is a great place to visit. Walking the old, red brick streets takes you back in time. Laclede’s Landing is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the Gateway Arch. Laclede’s Landing is filled with a variety of dining and entertainment choices. The kids had their hearts set on The Old Spaghetti Factory. We got there about 6:30pm on a Saturday evening. As soon as we opened the door, we knew there was a problem. The place was packed. We asked about the wait and were told it would be about 1 1/2 hours. With four hungry kids,...Read More

Our day at the City Museum was the highlight of our weekend trip to St. Louis. Don’t be fooled by the name. City Museum is not an art gallery. This was our first visit to this 100,000 square-foot warehouse of adventure. The City Museum is located in a former warehouse. It offers three floors of hands-on fun for children of all ages. The interior has been created from recycled materials from the city's demolished buildings and provides a fascinating place for play and creativity. The maze of tunnels, caves, slides and climbing frames make a visit to the City Museum a day of fun and adventure. Although it might be possible to cover the museum in a few hours, who would want to? Plan to s...Read More

We have visited Stone Hill Winery in Branson, Missouri many times. This was our first visit to Stone Hill’s historic home in Hermann, Missouri. Hermann is known as "Missouri’s Rhine Village". Early in the 19th century, German immigrants migrating west settled along the Missouri River valley. The area greatly resembled their homeland, along the Rhine River valley. The lands around Hermann are not only beautiful, but they are perfect for the vineyards, making this area ideal for wine production. Stone Hill Winery sits atop a hill overlooking the beautiful town of Hermann. The view from the winery is spectacular. Vineyards surround the entire facility, which include the winery,...Read More

I have always been a "Bud Man", so touring the historic Anheuser-Busch Brewery is a religious experience. Well, not quite. I do enjoy walking around the grounds, taking in the history. Beer has been brewed here since the mid-1800’s and the brewery has gone through many changes. The Anheuser-Busch Brewery is housed in a series of buildings, built on a hill near downtown St. Louis. The Tour Center is located at the top of the hill. The Tour Center is not only the beginning of your brewery tour, but it is filled with items documenting Anheuser-Busch’s nearly 140-year-old history. You will see videos and display timelines containing original promotional lithographs, signs, advertisemen...Read More
