Ski weekends in Vermont

Overview

Vermont is such a wonderful state. I have never had a bad time there. There is nothing quite like leaving the traffic of New York behind and heading north for a weekend. Quick Tips: Some of the best ski places I've been to on the East Coast are in Vermont. The mountains and snow-covered terrain in the winter are truly breathtaking. There are some great small inns and bed and breakfasts to be found if you're looking for a weekend trip on a budget. Best Way To Get Around: You will definitely need a car. Rural Vermont is pretty spaced out with beautiful scenery in between towns. Some small towns are worth stopping in and walking. Driving the back roads can provide some of the b...Read More

Arcady At The Sunderland Lodge

I have stayed at Arcady several times with friends on ski weekends. This is really a great place. Conveniently located, and close to several ski mountains, it's hard to find a better spot for the price. The rooms aren't fancy, but they have always been exceptionally clean. The owners are interesting and wonderful people. They have repeatedly been friendly and accommodating. We have always gone in groups in the winter, and they provide roll-away beds for us. There are fully stocked refrigerators in the rooms. They provide bagged lunches for you on the slopes for a small fee if you request. The owner is a wonderful cook, and they provide extravagant and delicious breakfasts before you head o...Read More

Manchester is an amazing little town. With a population of fewer than 4,000 permanent residents, they draw flocks of tourists during the winter months. This area is relatively close to several ski resorts and different kinds of lodging. There are factory outlet stores downtown of many different brands. Once you are in the town center, you can park the car and walk anywhere you need to go. Also downtown are many diverse restaurants and places to stay. It feels like the whole state of New York comes here in the wintertime. Walking around the Manchester Center area, you will see very few Vermont license plates. Most are from Connecticut and New York. If you like shopping and ski...Read More

Stratton Mountain Ski Resort

Stratton Mountain Ski Resort Photo, Stratton Mountain, Vermont
Quote:
Stratton Mountain is one of the largest name ski resorts on the East Coast. We have had many good ski weekends there. It is a large mountain with lots of different types and skill levels of trails to ski. Lift lines can get pretty long at the peak of the season. The Stratton personnel are very experienced and handle lines very well. The snow is usually groomed well, but gets icy by the end of the day due to high volumes of traffic. The more difficult trails usually stay better groomed here because fewer people use them. There are lots of both snowboarders and skiers. There are a lot of things to do in the immediate area at night.
