Kyoto
Kyoto is a city jam packed full of wonderful temples and sight as well as a great base for day trips to the surrounding area, my favourite being Hirojima Castle.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to travel around Japan has to be the super effiecient rail system. I bought a two-week rail pass which allows unlimited travel on most trains in Japan and was well worth the cost. Website: JapanRailPass.net

The subway provides a fairly good way to get around, although you miss the city sights. I hired a bike for a day which was useful but fustrating as there are so many traffic lights due to the grid formation of the cities streets.

Hotel

This is simply the best acccommodation that I stayed at in Japan. Tour Club is a easy 9-minute walk from the main station. The map provided gives clear instructions of how to find the place. I arrived in the morning, and was met by Tai, a young guy who works there. I was stayng in a dorm room which was shared with four other people and very clean. There is a communal lounge with a bilingual TV, free tea and coffee, as well as a great book collection with a wealth of information about Kyoto and the surrounding area.

The friendly atmosphere make this a really great budget place to stay with the only negative points the cold dorms (to save energy) and the 'lock out' between 11am and 4pm.

Attraction | "Kiyomizu Temple"

Kiyomizu Temple
The temple is perched of a hillside overlooking Kyoto, affording spectacular views over the city. The temple is reached after a climb up a narrow street lined with wooden houses and shops selling all manner of traditional crafts. The various constructions look spectacular in the wooded setting on the hillside, and are deffinatly worth a visit, my favourite temple in Kyoto.
