Sharks in the Desert?

An April 2002 trip to Las Vegas by bnbstein

If you love the ocean, but are stuck in Las Vegas, what do you do? Go see the shark encounter at Mandalay Bay!

By far, the best attraction was the Shark Encounter at the Mandalay Bay Casino. I think that it is actually better than Sea Worlds! The kids loved it, and it was entertaining and educational. (Just don't tell our kids that.) Some of the other things to do in Vagas are gamble (had to mention that, or you would have thought I was in a different Vegas), Fremont steet has a bunch of great shops and a good light show at night. The M&M store on the strip was fun, but be aware, you will leave with some really funky colored M&Ms. The Coke factory is there also, and is fun. For the more adventurous, there are a number of roller coasters and rides atop massive towers to get your thrills.

Quick Tips:

We stayed right on the strip, and it was nice, cause everything is with in walking distance. If you are on a budget however, you can find killer deals just a few miles away. When we do that we simply drive to one of the big casinos on the strip and let the valet park our car while we go play. A few bucks to park and retrieve your car is a cheap price to pay for saving all that money on your room!

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking is the way to go for seeing things on the Strip. It is extremely crowded and known for the crazy taxis.

Love this place! Of course they have cheesecake, but I was actually more impressed or maybe just surprised at the entrees. The menu is about 17 pages of differnt kinds of foods ranging from pizza, seafood, chicken, pastas, and desserts. It was very crowded, but we got right in. The service was great, as was the food. It is a little pricey, but great fun.

If you have children, this is the place. It is a theme cafe. It is made to look like a tropical rainforest with a lot of vegetation and animated animals. There are also numerous aquariums with wonderful brightly colored fish to watch.

The food was pretty good and the service was good also. If you save room for dessert (we were too stuffed), they have a really fun "volcano". It is a mountain of ice cream and toppings and is served with a lighted sparkler! Definitely an attention getter.

Go and have fun. The only downside, as with most places in Vegas, is that you have to enter/exit through the gift shop. Be ready to fend off the "mom, can have this pleeeeaaase???", and you will be ok.
