Every trip to the Clearwater area, I go out of our way to dine at Bern's. It might be the higest quality restaurant in Florida. Yes, the menu is mainly steak (which you order by the ounce: but also the freshest fish possible as the fish are swimming in large tanks in the kitchen until you order them! (Can you top that?) When you arrive, you'll have the opportunity to look at the wine list while you wait. It's huge and fascinating. Once seated you'll have a chance to book a tour of the kitchen (do it) and reservations for a table in the upstairs 'dessert rooms'. Although you certainly can order dessert to be served at the table where you have your dinner, we like the experience of going upstairs. I won't spoil the surprise--but it's wonderful.
The service is supurb, food unbelieveable. Open 5pm to 11pm daily. I try to call for a reservation prior to flying to Florida to make sure I can get in. When you book, ask for driving instructions. Very hard to get into during 'high' season. They also have vegeterian cruisine, I'm not kidding about this--they grow their own vegetables. No place for kids as far as I'm concerned!
