Milwaukee surprised me with its association with water. Of course it's on Lake Michigan, but it also has a number of rivers running through the city. A walk along either the lake or the revitalized Riverwalk on the Milwaukee River can be a nice rest. The northern suburbs offer some beautiful houses, especially along the lake. If you're a housewatcher-type, a ride up there is fun.Quick Tips: If you love German food as I do, this city offers some great places. I enjoyed Mader's the most, not too far off the Milwaukee River or from the center of town.Best Way To Get Around: The city center seems very small. Walking therefore is the best way to go. The city does have a bus system, but I ...Read More

Mader's is a traditional German restaurant in a German-American town. It is in a Swiss-German challet-style building not too far from the renovated city center. The food is quite German, with schnitzels and brauten seeming to be favorites. I had both and thought both were great. Mader's has been in Milwaukee for a while, so they know what they are doing. This is one of those restaurants with a shop connected to it. There is a little counter by the enterance that...Read More

A couple of quick facts about me, Emily Marie's son. I work in sports media and I have family in Wisconsin. Thus I decided to combine both facts and make a working vacation around the 2002 All-Star game. The game was quite a historical event itself, and I'd be happy to answer any questions elsewhere, but I was going to focus on the new Miller Park. First off, I had been to the old County Stadium and I loved it. I never knew from all the games I saw on TV how much of that old-baseball feel it had to it. When it was closed, it still had only a dot-matrix screen, and the innards had catwalks like they have (had) in Tiger Stadium and Wrigley Field. But that was then and this is now. Miller...Read More
