Harry had been looking for an excuse to take a pleasure trip in our small plane that he uses for business. Kinder, Louisiana was just the right distance - two hours flying time from San Antonio; the runway was good, 5000 feet and had fuel available. The "deal maker" for me was that is was just 15 miles from the Grand Casino Coushatta. I called the Casino and was connected to a "Casino Host", an extremely accommodating women named Janice. I asked her if there was a shuttle between the small airport and the Resort. Janice told me to just call when we arrived and "they would send a car for us." Imagine my surprise when a stretch Limo drove up. She also arranged for Players Club cards to be r...Read More

The Terrace Café was our choice for a leisurely mid-day meal on the day we arrived. The menu included salads, sandwiches, burgers, and great appetizers, as well as full meals and a buffet. Guests choose to sit inside where it is a little quieter, or in an open area where you can hear and see all the gambling action, and there is plenty of it at Coushatta. I ordered the Beef Quesadillas Appetizer ($6.99) and I must say, it was the most flavorful I have ever eaten. The beef was tender, the cheese melted to perfection, and the tortillas perfect. It was served with guacamole and sour cream. Harry enjoyed the catfish ($5.99). The service was excellent, our drinks were refilled freque...Read More

Come on -- let me show you where it's at —- the name of the place is I like it like that. This jingle had been running daily of our local television and I found myself humming it for days. According to their brochures, there are 3,200 slots and video games, 80 Las Vegas style table games, including Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Mini-baccarat, Caribbean Stud, and Let It Ride. There is an entire room dedicated to Poker games. This Casino is huge (107,600 square feet) and very Las Vegas, from the grand entrance, complete with valet parking, to the lights, glitz, glitter, sounds and fun of the finest places in Vegas. One section of the Casino is called the Grand Circus of Slots. I...Read More

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe Photo, Kinder, Louisiana
Quote:
WHO ARE THE COUSHATTAS OF LOUISIANA? The Coushattas were in the Tennessee River Country of Alabama in 1540 when DeSoto’s Spanish exploration party arrived and kidnapped their chief. For the next two hundred years, they coexisted somewhat, with the Spanish, English and French. Land hungry settlers invaded the Coushatta territory in the early 1700s and after several wars, treaties, and agreements, the Coushatta Tribe was stripped of more than 800 square miles of land that drove them from their home and into Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana. With each new treaty, more land was lost and in 1813 the Coushatta separated into several small bands, but continued their s...Read More
