Palace in Puerto/Nuevo Vallarta

A June 2003 trip to Puerto Vallarta by Delma-in-Philly

Our second vist to the beautiful Mayan Palace in Puerto and Nuevo Vallarta, MX. Nuevo Vallarta is by far the best resort we've stayed at, so we had to go again and visited Puerto Vallarta Mayan Palace, also beautiful.

Conchas Chinas Beach was off the beaten path, but the water was great, warm, and the place was very secluded (not recommended for families with small children though).

Quick Tips:

Vallarta Adventures (offices found at both marinas) offer almost every type of excursion you'd like to do affordably.

Best Way To Get Around:

Taxis are the best and most affordable way to get around. You sometimes get a personal tour guide on your way to your destination.

Best Things Nearby:
The Marina in Nuevo Vallarta. Vallarta Adventures is right there and ready to help out with all their wonderful excursions.

Best Things About the Resort:
Everything. The food, room, and resort are first class in every detail.

Resort Experience:
The poolside is by far the best place to be in this wonderful resort. Constant attention to your every want and need is provided. The food and drinks were affordable and ready to be served to you at the poolside. We even ate on the lobby veranda one rainy morning. Room service brought us our food right on the veranda where my friend and I were enjoying our morning and missed breakfast, so breakfast came to us. Within 15 minutes, we had our very own waiter setting up our table with our breaksfast as if we were in a 4 star restaurant. Attention to detail is #1 at this resort.

The room was absolutely beautiful and spacious. Our bed was an oversized king, so we felt like royalty. You can't get a bad view in Mayan Palace -- you either have the ocean or the mountains to delight you. The sun rising behind the mountains was breathtaking and the sun setting on the ocean was amazing! I've been here twice and can't wait to visit again!

River CafeBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

The best dinner we had outside of the resort. The place is beautifully decorated right near the mercado (flea market) near the river, hence its name. We dined on the veranda with the river by our side. It was a lovely and relaxing atmosphere. The food was delicous and abundant, the staff very friendly and overly attentive, and the margaritas had me flowing before my dinner arrived. Of course the two-for-one special helped a lot, but you have to get there before 6pm. If you like authentic Mexican and seafood, this place is a sure hit.

El DoradoBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Right on the Playa de los Muertos Beach. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and the food pretty good. Staff was friendly and attentive, however the locals were a little annoying throughout our dinner. Avoid sitting right near the beach but try not to miss the sunset--the view here is amazing!

Obviously try to get there before sunset and take a walk around the town. It is very quaint and we found some merchandise and liquor cheaper then in the centro.

El SetBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

El Set can be found near the Conchas Chinas beach. It's a beautiful restaurant by the cliff, however I was very disappointed by its Mexican entrees. I had the Molcajetes (which I've had better here in Philly) though my husband and the couple we were with had seafood, which according to them was excellent. I'm in Mexico, and I want real, authentic Mexican food and for a fine dining establishment it was overly priced and didn't meet my expectations. On a good note their drinks were great and appetizers were pretty good.

If you want seafood and a spectacular view of the ocean and sunset, then this is the place to go, but be prepared to pay a pretty penny.

Attraction | "Zoo nightclub and disco"

This night club has been fully renovated. We visited two years ago before the hurricane and we had a blast. We went again this yeara (2003) and it didn't disappoint us. The people are party goers, but very respectful and carefree. The club personnel was very attentive and kept the drinks coming with 2-for-1 specials. We got VIP service since we were a fairly big group and the staff knew to keep the drinks coming. The music was great and loud and very hip -- from pop, hip-hop, rock, and reggae, it had something for everyone.
